Mission First, let us make it perfectly clear, Mission Statements are a corporate thing, not a God thing. Never the less, we have a mission, just not a statement.
Our Mission is clear.... You! You personally and the community at large. Our most consistent ministry has been Outreach. Our relationship with the Christian Service Center, Daily Bread, Coalition for the Homeless and Church World Service is long running and well established.
Our quest now is... where do we go from here? Many "Organized Christian Fellowships" (denominations) have not kept up with the drastic change in the social fabric of these United States of America. This doesn't mean "The Church" shouldn't continue with their current missions (ministries) but, we do need to connect more with community needs. A successful mission is described by the intersection of a God given talent (Gift of the Spirit) with the needs of the community. Church History In time, the need for a Disciples of Christ church congregation in the Winter Park area was realized. Dedicated and visionary individuals and families from the Central Christian Church of Orlando, near lake Ivanhoe, came to a meeting in the Galloway home to prayerfully consider their dream. This took place in March of 1958. In June of 1958, Central Christian Church of Orlando commissioned 53 of its members to start this new congregation, to be known as the Central Christian Church of Winter Park. The services were held at the Park Avenue Elementary School. Meanwhile, the group voted to change their name to Winter Park Christian Church. In 1960, the group of believers moved to the five acre site on 760 North Lakemont Avenue, Winter Park. The Sanctuary was added in 1967 and the Office/Education building was added in 1982. Additional frontage property was purchased in 1987. A few of the charter members of WPCC, still attend and serve in the ministries of the congregation. The Winter Park Christian Church has a warm and friendly group, active in Bible study and prayerful concern for one another. Whats a DOC? The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is one of few Protestant denominations that was founded on American Soil. Our founding fathers believe that Sacraments (Holy Communion) should be available to all believers. No human subscribed process should prevent or authorize your right to call yourself a “Christian”. With that, they set out to unify all “Christians”. One body of believers, one faith, one God, one Savior. No more
